Nouic is situated in the area of Haute Vienne, Limousin, France. Here is some useful information on the area around the village of Nouic.
Bellac
Bellac is our nearest small town, and is the sous-prefecture of the Haute Vienne. Founded in the late Middle Ages, Bellac was long surrounded by ramparts. Today, you can still admire the twelfth century church of Notre Dame.
Limoges
Limoges is world famous for its fine porcelain and is the capital of the Limousin region. Founded by the Romans in 16BC, many ancient buildings and quaint old streets are still to be found. Well worth a visit is the Maison Traditionnelle de la Boucherie - a museum dedicated to the butchers of Limoges. Next door is the covered market Les Halles, where the alleyways inside are full of tempting smells and mouth - watering French food.
Saint-Junien
Saint-Junien is Haute Vienne’s second largest town, on the borders of the parc naturel regional Perigord-Limousin. Famous for leather, china and enamelling, there are so many opportunities for buying gifts and quality clothing.
Oradour sur Glane
In days gone by, the name Oradour sur Glane evoked, for those who knew it, a charming French village; even more; a Limousin market town, well situated, prosperous, where the inhabitants of Limoges, the nearby city, loved to go and breathe the fresh country air. Then, on 10th June 1944, an attack was carried out by soldiers of the Der Führer Regiment of the Das Reich 2nd Waffen-SS Panzer Division, during World War II. Tragically Oradour became part of french history.
